Camping in your backyard offers a fun and accessible way to experience nature. If you have a sunroom, you can enjoy the outdoor scenery from the comforts of your home. Make memories with friends and family by planning a wonderful backyard camping trip together.
1. Set up a Tent or Blanket Fort
There are many ways to sleep well while camping at home, whether you plan to set up a tent or make other arrangements. You can camp the traditional way in sleeping bags or use comforters, cushions, towels or yoga mats to create a cozy and warm blanket fort. Setting up in your screened-in patio or porch lets you sleep close to nature while staying inside your home.
Other options include lying in a hammock or on a blow-up air mattress. To be even closer to nature, consider sleeping in a tent in your backyard.
2. Cook Some Campsite Foods
For a classic camping meal, you could grill hot dogs and burgers and enjoy their smokey, savory taste. Or, if you’d like to set up a bonfire and make a classic meal, you could cook meat and veggies in foil packets.
You’ll need a sweet dessert, of course. Toasting marshmallows to make s’mores with chocolate and graham crackers is a family favorite. Bring the tasty treats inside to eat in your sunroom or screened-in patio if you want to view the scenic outdoors away from any mosquitos.
3. Plan Some Activities and Games
A big part of backyard camping involves cherishing the time you spend in nature with loved ones. Cornhole and bocce are excellent lawn games to play during the day. You can also organize a scavenger hunt to find items like round rocks or four-leaf clovers. As another option, playing with a deck of cards in your sunroom or enclosed patio can offer a refreshing break from the sun.
Some nighttime activities include telling campfire stories and catching fireflies outside in mason jars. You could also try to spot meteors or constellations while stargazing.
